Class & Group Photos: Getting Everyone Camera-Ready

Class and group photos are all about consistency across dozens (sometimes hundreds) of students, so a bit of organisation before the camera comes out saves everyone time.

Before the day - Make sure every student is in correct uniform, including hats or ties if that's part of the school's photo-day standard. - Have a class list or roll ready in case any student needs to be added, moved between groups, or is away. - If a teacher aide or additional staff member is usually in the room, decide in advance whether they're included in the shot.

Getting the group right - Shortest students go to the front (kneeling or seated), tallest to the back (standing) — it keeps every face visible in the final photo. - Even spacing beats a tight squeeze — a few centimetres of gap between students avoids anyone being hidden behind a shoulder. - Teachers usually stand at one end or the centre of the back row, not the very middle where they'd block students. - Hands relaxed at sides or loosely clasped in front photographs better than tightly crossed arms.

Keeping it quick - One staff member helping arrange students while the photographer sets up the camera roughly halves the time per group. - Group photos usually get more than one frame taken, since it only takes one student blinking to need a retake — we'll let you know if we need another go.
