AFL / Aussie Rules Photo Day: Team & Action Shot Tips

AFL photo days combine a full-team portrait with high-energy action — marking, kicking and handball all make for strong individual shots.

Team photos - Full playing kit with guernsey tucked and numbers visible — the team photo is often used for the club website and social media, so a clean, consistent look across the squad matters. - Standard lineup is tallest at the back standing, shorter players seated or kneeling at the front, with the team ball held centre-front. - Mouthguards out and socks pulled up for the main shot.

Action shots - A strong overhead mark is one of the most recognisable AFL action shots — timing the jump at its peak makes all the difference, so we may ask for a couple of practice marks to get it right. - Kicking follow-through (drop punt or torpedo) reads better in a photo than the moment of contact with the ball. - Handball action works well as a close two-player shot — eyes on the ball, not the lens. - Keep your usual game intensity for action shots — a relaxed jog rarely photographs as well as a genuine contest for the ball.
